October 2024

Hello Everyone! It’s been too long and yet it feels like just yesterday I left Southern California.

When I first left Huntington Beach, I think it was a the single most beautiful night that I could have left on. The beach was beautiful and the endless sunset cascaded across the sand, as people from the church were worshipping God.
I left on the first Refuge BeachNight of the season. Something I’ve been a part of 9 summers and yet here I was, at my last one. I held my niece in my arms and for the first time since this journey started, did the reality of what I was about to do set in.

I was about to leave it all, for what I believe God had called me to do.

The moment I exited the plane, I felt the total change in temperature. I started to drip sweat immediately. The temperature was 32°C + 82% humidity which is makes it feel like 115°F. The temperature wouldn’t change for the next 3 months and has stayed that way until about a week ago.

Here is picture of the room that I stayed in for the first month. There was no air conditioning and I spent many a nights sweating, just trying to cool down.

So what's the Plan?

For the next year, (possibly two), I will be studying Japanese and helping out the local church here in Osaka, Japan.

The plan is to build relationships with the Christians that are already here, spreading the love of Jesus to the local Japanese, as well as foriegn Nationals living in Japan. I’m also waiting to hear from God how he wants me to move and act in Japan.

The biggest and most important thing is to first learn the language, “How are you supposed to understand the needs of the people, if you don’t understand what they’re saying.” One wise person once told me.

Support

By far the most important thing that is needed while I am here is prayer. There is so much that goes into moving, building relationship, learning about another culture, and learning a language that truly everyday feels like you’re a little kid trying to understand the world around you. Everyday is extremely humbling and by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
Pray for the people of Japan, that they have a desire to hear the things of God. That they have a hunger to understand of the God that loves them and created them with a purpose.

Pray for the local church in Japan, that those that are here would not grow weary doing good, and also find the best way to use their time for God’s glory.
Pray that I understand Japanese and use it to a level to build friendships with locals so that they can see the love that Christ has for them.

I am looking for partners to support me monthly through prayer and donation as I continue to spread the word of Christ. If this has resonated with you I urge you to pray for the most unreached first world nation on the planet and ask God how to best help.I have set up an account with a Missions organization that I really respect and admire,

Shepherd’s Staff.
